Verska Naase’ invite the listener to a fairytale land where ancient customs and myths are alive, and singing accompanies all events of life from everyday chores to religious holidays. The Seto community living in the Southeast of Estonia are ethnically and linguistically distinct, preserving their tradition in the face of encroaching modernity. Leelo, their distinct polyphonic style of singing is listed by UNESCO as intangible heritage, that can be dated back 2000 years. The singers of Verska Naase learned many songs from their mothers and grandmothers, but also include melodies acquired from recordings, keeping a crucial apect of their community alive.
